Yep, more or less it is.

No.
No no no  no no no no.
STAHP.
While being an atheist in a predominately religious culture may have inconveniences and annoyances, can we PLEASE not compare it to the racial violence of the KKK?
Like, holy fuck guys. Do not do that.

No, actually we can not NOT compare it. It’s the same thing. The picture doesn’t claim the KKK IS the same as religion (although obviously KKK was HIGHLY religiously motivated), but the prejudice and hate that blacks were getting from KKK on the basis of just who they are, are EXATCLY  the same hate and prejudice that atheists get from believers on the basis of just who they are. Not notifying that is just purposely shutting your eye in the face of reality.
There is a  need for social movement to change this situation as there was a need for a social movement to change black’s oppression.. That part of history is not a Holy Grail and it’s not nothing can be compared to it.

….No.
No, I’m sorry. I’m an Atheist. I grew up in small town Texas. I know how shitty it is to be a non-believer in the bible belt.
But that ain’t SHIT compared to racial violence in the US. It IS NOT THE SAME.
IT IS NOT THE SAME.
IT is INCREDIBLY insensitive and shitty to suggest that it is. Like, HOLY CRAP NOOOOOOOO STAHP.
Atheists are predominately privileged, educated white people and no matter how shitty it often is to put up with the crap we get from religious people (and it IS shitty), it does NOT compare to the historical, institutionalized,  codified racism in our culture.

Really? No.

Now - I remind you it’s about respect of your oppressor. It’s not about KKK being the same as religion.
And it is the same in both cases. Black people do not/did not have the monopoly to be oppressed. Sorry.

1. You are ignoring intersectionality.
2. One isolated incident is not comparable to the extreme history of racial violence in the US. While that incident is TERRIBLE, it is not indicative of a large systemic social violence.
For fuck’s sake. This isn’t some kind of Oppression Olympics. I’ll be the first to admit that is ain’t easy being a non-believer in our culture a lot of the time.
But there isn’t the long historical, institutional, codified history of violence towards atheists the way there is towards people of color in the US. And it is VERY insensitive, even RACIST, to say that there is.
